Radka Denemarková (born March 14, 1968 in Kutná Hora ) is a Czech writer, translator and journalist.

Life

Radka Denemarková studied German and Bohemian Studies at Charles University in Prague and received her doctorate in 1997. She worked at the Institute for Czech Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic . During this time she was an advisor to the Divadlo Na zábradlí . She is a consultant for the German language for television reports and publishes reviews and reviews on literary topics in the magazines "Tvar" and "Česká literatura".

In her work Denemarková deals with dark and repressed sides of European history, such as the expulsion of Germans after the Second World War, anti-Semitism or patriarchal structures and the associated violence against women.

Awards

In 2007 she received the Czech Magnesia Litera Award in the prose category for her book Peníze Od Hitlera . In 2009 she was again awarded this prize for her biography Smrt, nebudeš se báti aneb Příběh Petra Lébla by the theater director Petr Lébl . In 2009 she was on the list of nominations for the Josef Škvorecký Prize for the same book .
