Vincent Hložník

Vincent Hložník (born October 22, 1919 in Svederník , † December 10, 1997 in Bratislava ) was a Slovak graphic artist, painter, illustrator and postage stamp artist.

From 1937 to 1942 Hložník studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague , where Prof. Kysela was one of his teachers. His oeuvre is largely inspired by his experiences during the Second World War . His main focus was on being human, but especially on the negative experiences of suffering and pain. In 1958 he became a professor at the Art School in Bratislava, where he also counted the artist Albín Brunovský among his students. This worked temporarily as his assistant in the 1950s. Hložník designed around 25 postage stamps, mostly to commemorate historical events .

He was married to Viera Hložníková , who continues his work as a stamp artist .
