Jacques Rupnik (born November 21, 1950 in Prague ) is a French political scientist and historian with a focus on Eastern and Central Europe.

life and work

Rupnik lived in Prague until he was 15. He studied history and political science at the Sorbonne University in Paris and at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., Where he also lectured for a year.

Rupnik works at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and is Research Director at the Center d'études et de recherches internationales . From 1990 to 1992 he was an advisor to the Czechoslovak President Václav Havel ; From 1999–2000 he was a member of the Independent International Kosovo Commission. From 2007 to 2010 he advised the European Commission . Rupnik conducts research on European integration and the democratization processes in Central Europe, on constructions of national identity and on the Balkans. He regularly publishes political analyzes on Europe after the collapse of communism and the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, as well as on European democracy, among others in the Revue Transit .
