The Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques ( FNSP ) was founded in 1945 at the instigation of Charles de Gaulle to convert the École libre des sciences politiques into the Institut d'études politiques de Paris ( Science Po ). Today the FSNP forms the management of Science Po and at the same time the central research branch of the school, the Center d'Étude pour la Vie Politique Française ( CEVIPOF ).

Despite the primacy of political research in France , the foundation was established under private law . In addition to the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme , FNSP is the only French foundation with state utility status.

history

Émile Boutmy founded the École Libre des Sciences Politiques (ELSP) in 1872 to train a new elite in the political and moral crisis after the Franco-Prussian War . Initially, Boutmy had no wealth or reputation. Even so, he managed to build a cornerstone of French political education. He ran the school until 1906.

In 1945 the school was partially nationalized and divided into a school part, the Institut d'Etudes Politiques (IEP), and an administrative part, the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (FNSP). Sociologist André Siegfried was entrusted with the management . After Siegfried's death in 1959, the historian Pierre Renouvin took over the management until 1971, when he was replaced by the politician François Goguel . His successor, René Rémond , took over the management in 1981 and remained in office until 2007. He was followed by the economist Jean-Claude Casanova , who remained in office until 2016. Since 2016, the lawyer and political scientist Olivier Duhamel has headed the foundation, whose head of administration Frédéric Mion is also director of the Institut d'études politiques de Paris .

publishing company

The FNSP publishes publications for research and teaching in the Presses de la Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques .
