history

The village, which largely belongs to the Premonstratensian convent Rosa Coeli , was first mentioned in writing in 1323, when the queen widow Elisabeth exchanged the place together with the patronage of the Brno Mother of God Church at the monastery for the town of Pravlov in order to found a monastery in Old Brno. The Leobschützer pastor Vitoslav owned another share . On condition that he was buried in the monastery church, in 1339 the pastor also gave the Cistercian convent Aula Sanctae Mariae its share. In 1714 the old Brno monastery sold the Hajany manor together with part of Syrovice to Johann Kaschnitz von Weinberg. From this in 1717 Eustach Joseph Gerstmann von Gerstfeld acquired the Hajan estate. Between 1723 and 1724 twelve new chalets were built in Hajany. The oldest local seal dates from 1733 and bears the inscription Obec Hagani 1733 . A vineyard existed until 1749, after which it was turned into arable land. Further owners were from 1746 Heinrich Hajek von Waldstätten and from 1790 Matthias von Smetana. At that time 110 people lived in the 19 houses in the village. Around 1795 the Lords of Smetana had a small castle built on the manor. The estate also had a distillery and a vinegar factory. After the Knights of Smetana, Count Mitrovský von Mitrovice and Nemyšl followed in the 19th century. The village was parish to Groß Urhau . In 1834 the place consisted of 36 houses and had 239 inhabitants.

After the abolition of patrimonial Hajany formed from 1850 a municipality in the district administration of Brno. In the second half of the 19th century Heinrich Wankel discovered a prehistoric tomb near Hajany. In 1869 307 people lived in the 36 houses of Hajany. In 1877 the castle passed to the Harnoncourt-Unverzagt family through marriage. In 1890 the village had grown to 43 houses and had 288 inhabitants, including 24 German speakers. The entire population was Catholic. At the beginning of the 20th century the Deym von Střítež family bought the castle. In 1921 the municipality was assigned to the Okres Brno-venkov. In the 1940s, construction work took place east of the village for the Wroclaw-Vienna Reichsautobahn , which was discontinued in 1943. On April 24, 1945, the tank battle of Groß Urhau took place in the area. Between 1948 and 1960 the municipality belonged to the Okres Brno-okolí. After its cancellation, Hajany returned to the Okres Brno-venkov.
