Popovice (German Popowitz , formerly Poppowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located ten kilometers south of the city center of Brno and belongs to the Okres Brno-venkov .
geography
Popovice is located in the Thaya-Schwarza valley basin . The village lies west of the confluence of the Bobrava and Svratka . The Rajhradská bažantnice ( Popowitz Forest ) extends to the south . To the west runs the Břeclav – Brno railway line , where the Popovice u Rajhradu railway station is located. The expressway R 52 / E 461 also passes to the west , from exit 9 a road leads to Popovice.
Neighboring towns are Modřice in the north, Chrlice in the northeast, Rebešovice in the east, Rajhradice in the southeast, Loučka, Čeladice and Rajhrad in the south, Syrovice in the southwest, Ořechov and Hajany in the west and Želešice in the northwest.
history
The first written mention of the village Popowici took place in 1045 in a deed of donation for the establishment of a monastery by the Břevnov monastery . In the founding deed of the Rajhrad monastery from 1048, Popovice was listed as a monastic property alongside Rajhrad , Rajhradice , Loučka, Opatovice , Ořechov and Domašov .
After the abolition of patrimonial Popovice formed from 1850 a municipality in the district administration Hustopeče . In 1948 the municipality was assigned to the Okres Židlochovice. After its abolition, Popovice came to the Okres Brno-venkov.
