Holasice is located on the right bank of the Vojkovický náhon ( Galtbach ), the former course of the Svratka, in the Thaya-Schwarza valley . The straightened Svratka flows past 600 m east of the village . The Nivky (219 m) rises to the southwest, behind it lies the dry valley Neugrund. The Břeclav – Brno railway line runs along the western periphery of the village ; the nearest railway station is Rajhrad . Rajhrad Abbey is located north of Holasice .

Neighboring towns are Rajhrad and Čeladice in the north, Loučka and Rajhradice in the northeast, Opatovice in the east, Blučina in the southeast, Vojkovice in the south, Ledce and Sobotovice in the southwest and Syrovice in the west.

history

According to ancient traditions, when the Rajhrad monastery was founded in 1048, there was a courtyard in Holasice, around which a settlement was later laid out. Furthermore, chroniclers write that this settlement was extinct and later rebuilt. In the first half of the 13th century, in addition to the Freihof, six houses are said to have stood in Holasice. This town center is said to have survived the incursions of the Cumans in 1253 as well as Rudolf von Habsburg to Moravia in 1278 and in 1286 also the raid of Gerhard von Zbraslav and Obřany († 1291) against the monastery. Although this is often reproduced in the literature, there are no sources for it. The earliest documented mention of Holasice dates from 1349. Until the first regulation of the Svratka in 1749, Holasice was directly on the right side of the river on a raised terrace. After that, the original course of the river served as a ditch for the Woikowitz mill and was later called Galtbach . In 1772 the village consisted of 33 houses. In 1838 the Emperor Ferdinand's Northern Railway was built from Brno to Vienna, which opened in 1839 without stopping in Holasice.

After the abolition of patrimonial Holasice formed from 1850 a municipality in the district administration Auspitz and the judicial district Židlochovice. After the Munich Agreement of 1938, Holasice became a border town to the German Reich until 1945. The neighboring village of Woikowitz was added to the district of Nikolsburg in the Reichsgau Niederdonau . During the Bratislava-Brno operation on April 17, 1945, there was a violent clash between Soviet and German troops near Holasice. After the Red Army had crossed over the Svratka, the fighting shifted to the northeast until April 24, 1945 when the tank battle of Groß Urhau took place. Holasice was completely destroyed and was nicknamed Malý Stalingrad during this time . After the end of the war, the village was quickly rebuilt. Between 1948 and 1960 the municipality belonged to the Okres Židlochovice. After its abolition, Holasice was assigned to the Okres Brno-venkov .
