Gerhard von Zbraslav and Obřany (also Gerhard von Zbraslaus and Obrzan ; Czech Gerhard ze Zbraslavi a Obřan ; * around 1246, † 1291 ) was a Moravian nobleman. From 1283 to 1285 he held the post of Chamberlain of Moravia .

Life

Gerhard von Zbraslav and Obřany came from the Moravian lords of Obřany, who are part of the von Kunstadt noble family . He was the eldest son of Znojmo Burgrave Boček of Jaroslavice and Zbraslav and Euphemie, daughter of Přibyslav of Křižanov . He received his first name and the predicate "von Zbraslav" after his grandfather Gerhard von Zbraslav , whose ancestors are not known. Later her first name “Gerhard” was Slavicized via “Erhart” to “Heralt”.

After the early death of his father in 1255, who in a will transferred a large part of his land to the Žďár monastery he had founded , Gerhard and his brother Smil, who was probably a year older, received Jaroslavice and Obřany, among others . The title of Count von Pernegg , which their father wore, was not given to them. Possibly it was only limited to his lifetime. Since Gerhard and his brother had not yet reached the age of majority, they were initially under the tutelage of their uncle Smil von Zbraslav and Střílky .

In 1262 Gerhard, together with his mother and brother Smil, testified to a donation from his uncle Smil von Lichtenburg for the Bobrůvka monastery . In 1263 he was first given the title "von Zbraslav" ( de Zbraslann ). Probably around this time he entered the service of Queen Kunigunde , whom he accompanied to Písek in 1265 . He was also present when she donated some wineries near Blučina and the neighboring Novošice ( Bertholdsdorf ) to the Žďár monastery . In 1267 he inherited the estates of his brother Smil, who died at the age of about 22 years. After the death of his uncle Smil von Zbraslav and Střílky, who founded the Smilheim Monastery in 1261 , Gerhard took over the patronage of the monastery. As Gerhard's sister Agnes / Anežka 1277 the monastery Žďár a third of the village Těšany transferred, Gerhard was with his mother, his uncle Kuna of Zbraslav and Kunštát and his son Bocek, who later founded the Jevišovice lineage of the Lords of Kunštát, in Zdar as Witness present.

In 1278 Gerhard first used the title "von Obřany" ( z Obřan ). It is therefore likely that he built or completed the Obřany Castle two kilometers northeast of Obřany , which was already in his father's possession . Although his father never used the title "von Obřany", this was later transferred to him and even to his father Gerhard von Zbraslav, who had never owned Obřany.

In August 1278 Gerhard probably took part in the battle on the Marchfeld , where King Ottokar II Přemysl was killed. In 1283, after the return of King Wenceslaus II from the Brandenburg hostage custody, he was appointed Sub-Chamberlain of Moravia. It is not known why he fell out of favor with the king and lost the office of chamberlain in the second half of 1285. In the same year he sold his wife's marriage property in Ebenfurth to Konrad von Pottendorf .

In 1289 Gerhard wrote his will, with which he transferred most of his possessions to the Žďár monastery. Two years later, he died at the age of about 45. His wife died four years later, in 1295. With their son Smil von Obřany, the tribe of the Lords of Obřany died out in 1312/13.
