history

overall view

Obřany was first mentioned in 1234 when it was owned by the later Brno burgrave Přibyslav von Křižanov . Presumably after his death in 1251 or even earlier as the marriage property of his daughter Euphemia / Ofka, it came to his son-in-law Boček von Jaroslavice and Zbraslav . His son Gerard of Zbraslav and Obřany established two kilometers northeast of the town, the castle Obřany , after he first the predicate "of Obřany" (from 1278 for Obran used). This title was later transferred to Gerhard's father Boček von Jaroslavice and Zbraslav and also to his father Gerhard von Zbraslav , who had never owned Obřany.

After the death of Gerhard von Zbraslav and Obřany in 1291, his sons Boček († 1296) and Smil inherited the estates he left behind. Since the latter died in 1312/13 without male descendants, the direct line of the Lords of Obřany, who later also belonged to the von Kunstadt ( z Kunštatu ) family, died out with him . Probably because Smil turned against the Bohemian King John of Luxembourg , the king transferred Obřany castle and dominion to Heinrich von Leipa in 1313 . In 1395 it was acquired by the Kartause Královo Pole ( Königsfeld ) near Brno. As part of the Josephine reforms , it came to the religious fund, which sold it to Josef Schindler in 1825.

After the abolition of patrimonial Obřany formed from 1850 a municipality in the Brno district. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia, Obřany was incorporated into Brno in 1919. Since November 24, 1990 it forms with the district Maloměřice the municipality Maloměřice a Obřany .
