Ulrich II. Von Neuhaus (also Ulrich II. Von Hradec , Czech Oldřich II. Z Hradce ; Latin Ulrich de Novo Domo ; † before 1312) was a Bohemian nobleman from the Witigon family branch of the Lords of Neuhaus . From 1284 he was burgrave of Znojmo and from 1302 sub-chamberlain of Moravia .

Life

His parents were Ulrich I. von Neuhaus and Maria, née Hardegg . He was first mentioned in 1281. Since he succeeded his father as ruler of the Lords of Neuhaus a year later, he must have been of legal age in 1282. Around this time, Bohemia was in a politically difficult situation because after the death of King Ottokar II. Přemysl in 1278, the Brandenburg Margrave Otto V took over the guardianship of Ottokar's underage son Wenceslaus II and ruled Bohemia to the dissatisfaction of the local nobility. After the marriage of the then 14-year-old Wenceslas, his guardianship passed in 1285 to his mother's lover, Zawisch von Falkenstein from the Krumlov line of the Witigonen. As a result, the Witigones came into opposition to Wenceslas and his followers. After Wenceslas came to power in 1290, Ulrich made a promise of loyalty to him on July 25, 1294 and, in the event that he ( Ulrich ) should die without male heirs, the town and rule of Neuhaus. In this case, further possessions were to pass to his relative Heinrich I von Rosenberg and Ulrich kept part of them for free use. In return, King Wenzel granted Ulrich the right to settle eight Jewish families in Neuhaus. Since 1299 Ulrich's son Ulrich III. was born, the property remained undivided in the family after Ulrich II's death.

Ulrich II was appointed burgrave of Znojmo as early as 1284 . From 1294 he is documented as Burgrave of Brumov . In 1302 he was appointed sub-chamberlain of Moravia.

Like his father Ulrich I, Ulrich II supported the German Order of Knights and the colonization of his territory with Germans. He never used the predicate "z Hradce", only "de Nova domo", "de Novocastro", "de Newenhaus". The minstrel Ulrich von Liechtenstein and the poet Ulrich von Eschenbach stayed at his farm .
