Ulrich I. von Neuhaus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich I. von Neuhaus (also Ulrich I. von Hradec , Czech Oldřich I. z Hradce ; Latin Ulrich de Novo Domo ; * before 1254, † after 1282) was in the service of the Bohemian King Ottokar II Přemysl and was from 1263 to 1270 royal chamberlain.

Life

Ulrich came from the Witigon family branch of the Lords of Neuhaus . His father was Witiko I. von Neuhaus , his mother is not known by name. Since his older brother Heinrich / Jindřich was no longer alive and the younger brother Theoderich belonged to the clergy, Ulrich inherited his father's possessions after his father's death. In documents he did not use the predicate "z Hradce", but "de Newenhous" or de "Novo Domo".

In 1254 Ulrich took part in Ottokar II's crusade against the pagan Pruzzen , in which Ulrich's older brother Heinrich was probably killed. In 1260 he fought alongside Wok von Rosenberg in the battle of Kressenbrunn against Hungary. When Ottokar founded the Goldenkron monastery in 1263 in gratitude for the battle he had won , "Ulricus de Nova domo" was one of the aristocrats who attested to the founding document. From 1263 to 1270 Ulrich held the office of Bohemian Chamberlain, which was usually given to a favorite of the king.

Like his father, Ulrich supported the colonization of his territory with Germans and politically he turned to Austria. The relationship with the Austrian aristocratic families such as the Hardegg and the Schaunbergers played a role.
