Doubravník (German Doubrawnik ) is a minor town in the Okres Brno-venkov in the Czech Republic .

geography

The village is located not far from the Pernstein Castle , about thirty-five kilometers northwest of Brno , at the inflow of the Rakovec brook into the Svratka . It is located in the Svratecká Hornatina Nature Park .

The Svratka shows a meandering course above the village , which left a fluvial plain in the valley . Below Doubravník, it winds with a sweeping arch along the steep valley slopes.

The settlement is largely enclosed by the wooded heights in the Bohemian-Moravian border mountains.

Coming from Brno, the regional road 387 leads through Doubravník in a north-westerly direction towards Bystřice nad Pernštejnem . The village has a train station on the Brno- Žďár nad Sázavou railway line.

history

The origins of the Doubravník settlement go back to a Romanesque church and parish of the Augustinians , which was first documented in 1208. In a letter from Pope Gregory IX. , dated February 23, 1233, the Church of St. Francis is mentioned in Doubravník . At the instigation of Štěpán von Medlov , an ancestor of the Lords of Pernstein , a monastery was founded. The facility was later destroyed in the Hussite Wars and then rebuilt.

From 1483 the settlement began to develop into a market town . On the foundation walls of the former monastery complex, the Lords of Pernstein built a representative church, which in its scope far exceeded the needs of the population of the place and its surroundings. This building is attributed to the Moravian governor Johann von Pernstein , who dedicated it to his father, Wilhelm II. Von Pernstein . The monastery was closed in 1543 and the last sisters moved to the Porta Coeli monastery . In 1548 the Olomouc bishop Paul von Miličin and Talmberg consecrated the church.

Since October 10, 2006 Doubravník has the status of Městys .

Community structure

The Městys Doubravník consists of the districts Doubravník (Doubrawnik) and Křížovice (Krischowitz) .

Holy Cross Church

The Holy Cross Church (" Church of the Discovery of the Holy Cross "), built between 1535 and 1557, is a late Gothic hall church with Renaissance influences , which was built as the grave church of the Lords of Pernstein. On the walls of the crypt there are epitaphs from the Gothic and Renaissance periods from members of this noble family.

The baroque main altar is the work of the Brno sculptor Andreas Schweigel from the years 1781–1786. Two marble sculptures are placed on either side. The altarpiece Finding the Holy Cross was created in the studio of the Viennese artist Franz Anton Maulbertsch . The baroque organ dates from 1760 and is the work of master Jan Výmola from Brno.

The architectural and historical significance of the church comes from the fact, which is extremely rare in Europe north of the Alps, that a large part of this church structure was built from marble . This applies to important visible external elements of the masonry such as supporting pillars and corner walls, all load-bearing parts of the interior (profiled columns and vaulted ribs) including the floor and the portal . These parts of the building were made from the predominantly white marble from Nedvědice .
