The Mahalangur Himal with a maximum height of 8848 m , the highest mountain range of the earth .
It is part of the Himalayas and lies on the border between Nepal and Tibet ( People's Republic of China ). With Mount Everest , Lhotse , Makalu and Cho Oyu , four eight-thousanders belong to the massif. There are also a large number of mountains with an altitude of more than 7000 meters.

The Mahalungur Himal is located in eastern Nepal and adjacent Tibet. The eastern border of the Mahalangur Himal is formed by the Arun river valley and the Popti La mountain pass . Beyond the Arun lies the Umbak Himal , which in turn borders on Janak Himal and Kangchenjunga Himal . In the west, the Mahalangur Himal is bounded on the Tibetan side by the Gyorag Glacier , which stretches north from Nangpa La . On the Nepalese side are the Nangpa Glaciers and the Bothekoshi Glaciers , the former is the border that continues over the rivers Bothekoshi and (south of Namche Bazar ) Dudhkoshi .

The Mahalungur Himal is divided into three subjections . In the northeast which is Makalu Subjection with Makalu and Chomo Lonzo passing through the flow Barun from the Barun Subjection is separated in the southeast. The Barun Subjection includes Baruntse , Chamlang , Ama Dablam and Kangtega , among others . The Khumbu Subjection is the western and largest subdivision. Here you can find Everest, Lhotse and Cho Oyu, as well as Changtse , Pumori and Taboche . The Khumbu Subjection is separated from the Makalu Subjection in the northeast by the Kharta Glacier , the Karpo La and the approximately 6130 m high saddle east of the Shartse . South of the Shartse is the saddle to Cho Polu as the border to the Barun Subjection , which continues to the south and east over the Lhotse Shar Glacier , Imja Glacier and Dudhkoshi .
National parks
On the Nepali side of the Mahalangur Himal two national parks have been established: The Sagarmatha National Park , World Heritage of UNESCO , to the west and its eastern extension, the Makalu Barun National Park . On the north side is the Qomolangma National Nature Reserve , which is treated by UNESCO as a Qomolangma Biosphere Reserve .
