The Changtse (also Bei Peak ; former English name: Everest North Peak , Tibetan བྱང་ རྩེ Wylie byang rtse ) is a mountain in the Himalayas in the Dingri district of the Shigatse administrative district in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, immediately north of Mount Everest . The Changtse is connected to the Changzheng Ri by a mountain ridge. Changtse is the Tibetan word for "north peak".
The first ascent without a permit took place on October 3, 1982 by Johan Taks from a Dutch expedition, who was officially on a Mount Everest ascent from the north side. The first ascent with permission took place on October 14, 1982 by the German mountaineer Udo Zehetleitner . Two days later, Paul Braun, Rudolf Frick, Ludwig Hösle and Martin Engler from the same expedition were on the summit.
