Udo Zehetleitner

Udo Zehetleitner (* 1940 in Sonthofen ) is a German mountain guide and mountaineer .

Zehtleitner's training as a mountain guide took place in 1961 under Anderl Heckmair , the first to climb the Eiger north face .

In 1968 he founded the 'Bergschule Oberallgäu' with Heckmair and other mountain guides, which he took over as sole owner in 1971. His son Bernd Zehetleitner has been running the mountain school since 2004.

In 1982 Zehetleitner managed the first approved ascent of the 7543  m high Changtse in the Himalayas . He also reached the 8000er summit Cho Oyu .

As part of various rock, ice, climbing tours, expeditions and long-distance trips, he climbed the Matterhorn at least 84 times and stood on Kilimanjaro over 35 times . In the 1990s he took the presenter Hermann Magerer to the Allgäuer Berg Höfats in a program Bergauf-Bergab .

As a developer of the popular Alpine crossing from Oberstdorf to Meran , Zehetleitner was awarded the Tyrolean Eagle Order in silver in 2009.
