The Kala Patthar is a mountain in the Mahalangur Himal in the Khumbu region in southeastern Nepal .

It is actually a pre-summit of the Pumori . Mount Everest , Lhotse , Nuptse and Lingtren are in the immediate vicinity , which is why it is one of the most popular trekking destinations in the Khumbu.

The name Kala Patthar means "black stone". Since it is only 5675  m high, it is not officially a mountain in Nepal. Travel agencies often choose the somewhat lower southern summit ( 5545  m ) for ascent . From the last permanently inhabited village before Everest Base Camp , Gorak Shep , the summit can be reached in about a two-hour ascent. From the top you have a good view of the west side of Mount Everest, the north and south-west walls and the west ridge.
