Namche Bazar (नाम्चे बजार, also Namche Bazaar ) is the capital of the VDC Namche in the Khumbu region in the Solukhumbu district in Nepal .

It lies in a bowl-shaped cut above the Bhotekoshi at 3440  m . From the bottom of the valley you can reach Namche after crossing the Dudhkoshi and climbing up to about two hours.

The place is located at an important crossroads for the Khumbu region, where the path along the Bhotekoshi via Thame to Nangpa La and the path that leads further into the Dudhkoshi valley and ultimately up to Mount Everest ( Mount Everest Trek ) branch. Almost everyone who hikes in the Khumbu region visits Namche Bazar, which is the gateway to the High Himalayas, so to speak. There are many shops and accommodations in the village. You can buy almost everything that is needed for trekking . However, the prices are higher than in Kathmandu and the further you go up, the higher they become, as all goods can only be transported by porters and pack animals.

Namche Bazar is the administrative center of the Khumbu region. There is a police checkpoint, a bank, a post office and a dental clinic. The administrative center of the Sagarmatha National Park and barracks of the Nepalese army are also located here .

Immediately west of Namche Bazar is the Kongde Ri mountain ( 6187  m ) and the Thamserku mountain ( 6608  m ) to the east .

On a hill above Namche Bazar is Syangboche , a small town with a landing strip ( 3750  m above sea level). However, this is rarely used, as the ground consists of loose gravel and is therefore only suitable for a few types of aircraft or helicopters. The slope enables Namche Bazar to be reached from the air, especially in the event of medical emergencies.
