Namche ( Nepali नाम्चे ) is a Village Development Committee (VDC) in the Solukhumbu district of the Sagarmatha administrative zone in eastern Nepal .
Namche is located in the High Himalayas , 30 km west-southwest of Mount Everest . The VDC Namche extends west of the Dudhkoshi over the catchment area of its right tributary Bhotekoshi . The mountains Kongde Ri , Tengi Ragi Tau , Jasemba and Khumbi Yul Lha rise along the border of Namche. Namche borders on Tibet to the north and northwest .
The main town is Namche Bazar . There is an airfield near the neighboring town of Syangboche . Jorsalle, located on Dudhkoshi, is on the trekking route of the Mount Everest Trek . Namche is located in the western part of the Sagarmatha National Park .
The Namche Gompa is an important Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the Solukhumbu district.
Residents
At the 2011 census, Namche had 1,540 inhabitants (807 of them male) in 480 households.
