The Cistercian Abbey Oslavany (also Vallis Sanctae Mariae or Marienthal ) was 1225-1525 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Oslavany in Moravia (now District Brno-Country , Czech Republic ).

history

Heilwida von Znaim founded the first Moravian women's monastery "Vallis Sanctae Mariae", also known as the "Mariental", in Oslavany (20 km southwest of Brno in the Olomouc bishopric ) in 1225 . The monastery, which was ravaged for the first time in the Hussite Wars in 1443, was abandoned after a fire in 1525. The nuns went to the Maria Saal monastery in Brno. The monastery building was converted into a Renaissance castle, which is still standing today. The castle chapel is a remnant of the former monastery church.
