Johann Freiherr von Mundy , in Czech Jan Mundy (born October 28, 1798 in Brno , † March 9, 1872 in Vienna ) was an Austrian textile magnate and large landowner.

Johann von Mundy was the only son of the textile manufacturer Wilhelm Mundy , who came from the Eifel and who had made great fortunes in Moravia and had been promoted to the rank of baron in 1789.

In 1805, the still minor inherited a fortune of one and a half million guilders, including the lords of Drnovice , Račice , Hvozdec , Říčany , Porta Coeli and Veveří as well as three cloth factories in Brno , Předklášteří and Teschen with a total of 2000 employees. The factory in Teschen was abandoned a little later.

After marrying Isabelle Countess Kálnoky von Kőröspatak , Mundy moved to the Veveří Castle . His five children Bohuslav, Isabela, Jan, Jindřich and Jaromír were born there.

In 1821 Mundy sold the Porta Coeli estate for 200,000 guilders to Friedrich Schell von Wittinghoff. After 1830, Johann von Mundy had Račice Castle rebuilt in the Empire style. Mundy was able to win over heavy industrialist Theodor Offermann , who became the main shareholder of the Drnowitz sugar factory Offermann & Co. , to build a sugar factory on his property on the outskirts of Wischau .

Mundy died in Vienna, his final resting place was in the family crypt at the Laurentius Church in Drnovice.
