Theodor von Offermann

Theodor von Offermann (born February 23, 1822 in Brno , Moravia ; † November 15, 1892 there ) was an Austrian industrialist.

Life

Theodor Ritter von Offermann was a son of the Brno textile manufacturer Karl von Offermann , who was raised to the Austrian hereditary knighthood in 1863, and his wife Caroline, née Freiin von Fries. His older brother is Karl von Offermann . His nephews are Karl , Alfred and Edwin von Offermann.

After studying at the University of Berlin, Offermann expanded his knowledge of cloth manufacturing in France, Belgium and England. In 1845 he joined his father's cloth factory. After marrying the daughter of the mechanical engineering manufacturer Thomas Bracegirdle, Offermann became a partner in Thomas Bracegirdle & Son, Brno . With his appointment as co-director in his father-in-law's factory, Offermann shifted his business interests to the heavy and coal and steel industries and later also to sugar production from 1862. In the following years he also became a member of the boards of various mining companies.

In 1864 Theodor von Offermann acquired the Jehnice estate near Brno. In 1871 he bought Schrattenthal Castle and Deinzendorf Castle in 1872 .

On February 18, 1872, Thomas Bracegirdle & Son, Brno merged with the kk priv. Maschinenfabrik HA Luz, Brno to form the First Brno Machine Factory Company. Theodor Offermann took over the office of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the new stock corporation. In 1884 Offermann left his father's cloth factory.

Theodor von Offermann was the main shareholder in the Drnowitz sugar factory Offermann & Co. in Wischau, founded on the initiative of Johann Mundy , and owned another sugar factory in Ödenburg . Shortly before his death in 1892 he was raised to the Austrian hereditary baron status.

Offermann bequeathed the Jehnice estate to his grandson Bruno von Bauer in 1892. After his father's death, his son Viktor Freiherr von Offermann moved his seat from Brno to Schrattenthal Castle .
