Vladimír Menšík
Vladimír Menšík (born October 9, 1929 in Ivančice , Czechoslovakia , † May 29, 1988 in Brno ) was a Czech film , theater and television actor .
life and work
During the Second World War Menšík worked in the arms factory in Brno . After the end of the war he attended a technical college and entered an amateur theater. From 1947 to 1949 he worked in the I. Brno Machine Works and Foundry. He then studied until 1953 at the JAMU (Janáčkova akademie múzických umění) in Brno. In 1950 he got his first film role.
Vladimír Menšík was often seen in cheerful films , such as Miloš Forman's The Love of a Blonde (Lásky jedné plavovlásky, 1965) and was mostly known for his comedic characters and participation in various television series. Menšík made his first film with Zářijové noci (1957, English title: September Nights ).
The better-known films shown in Germany in which he participated include u. a. On the comet (Na kometě, 1970) by Karel Zeman , The girl on a broomstick (Dívka na koštěti, 1972), Three hazelnuts for cinderella (Tři oříšky pro Popelku, 1973), How to get Dr. Drown Mráček? or The End of the Water Men in Bohemia (Jak utopit doktora Mráčka aneb Konec vodníků v Čechách, 1974) or How to Wake Up the Sleeping Beauty (Jak se budí princezny, 1977).
Menšík also took part in various television series that made him known to a larger audience in Germany (East and West). B. in The Hospital on the Outskirts of the City (Nemocnice na kraji mesta, 1978) or in The Visitors (Návštevníci, 1983). He was most impressed by his portrayal of troubled family fathers who do not know what happens to them, especially in the children's series Pan Tau (1974, middle season), The Fairy Tale Bride (Arabela, 1979) and The Flying Ferdinand (Létající Čestmír, 1982).
In 1979 he received the Actor Award for his role in Hrozba at the National Film Festival in Karlovy Vary .
Menšík was ill with alcohol and therefore went into rehab. He also suffered from severe asthma. He died at the age of 58 in St. Anne's Hospital in Brno.
There is an exhibition about Vladimír Menšík in his native town Ivančice , which shows personal belongings, documents and photos as well as a statue of the actor. He had 11 siblings.
