The hospital on the outskirts of the city (original title: Nemocnice na kraji města ) is a Czechoslovak doctor series that was also broadcast on German-language television. Directed by Jaroslav Dudek, the scripts came from Jaroslav Dietl . In total, the series was broadcast in 21 countries. The versions in East and West Germany differ in the editing sequence and synchronization. In the ARD, the first season was broadcast in the GDR and the second with its own dubbed version.

Stories are told about an orthopedic station on the outskirts of the fictional town of Bor. It is not just about surgery, but also about the private problems of doctors, nurses and patients. The hospital in the Czech district town of Most served as a template for the hospital building . The hospital was recreated in the Barrandov Film Studios in Prague .
In 2003, a sequel entitled The Hospital on the Edge of the City - 20 years later with 13 episodes was broadcast. In 2008, 13 more episodes followed under the title Das Krankenhaus am Rande der Stadt - Neue Schicksale , which have not yet been dubbed in German.

The series is available on DVD. While the first 13 episodes were published with the unabridged GDR synchronization, for the second season the last six episodes, the FRG version consisting of only 16 episodes, were used.
