Jaroslav Dietl

Jaroslav Dietl (born May 22, 1929 in Zagreb , † June 29, 1985 in Prague ) was a Czech screenwriter , playwright and playwright . He achieved international fame through his television series.

Life

Dietl was born in Croatia , but the family returned to Czechoslovakia during his childhood . In 1940–1944 he attended a secondary school in Brno , which he left early to switch to a textile school. There he graduated from high school in 1949. He then studied for a year at the Faculty of Philosophy in Brno and worked in Brno as an educator. However, he soon moved to Prague, where he took up a position in the Ministry of Social Affairs. From 1950–1955 he studied dramaturgy at the film faculty of the Academy of Musical Arts . While still a student, he became a dramaturge for the newly founded Czechoslovak television . In 1962 he moved to the Barrandov film studios . In 1973 he was expelled from the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia . A year before his death, he was awarded the title of "Honored Artist".

His numerous television series, including The Hospital on the Outskirts and The Woman Behind the Counter , brought him fame outside of Czechoslovakia . He also wrote scripts for several feature films and some plays.
