Synagogue in Ivančice

The synagogue in Ivančice (German Eibenschütz or Eibenschitz ), a town in the Okres Brno-venkov district in the Czech Republic , was built from 1851 to 1853. The derelict synagogue at 26 Josef Vávra Street has been a protected cultural monument since 2008 .

history

It is said that Jews have lived in Ivančice since the 10th century , making the place one of the oldest Jewish-inhabited places in Moravia . The Jewish community of Ivančice has been documented since the second half of the 15th century.

The synagogue in late classical style was built on the site of an older building.

Todays use

The synagogue was used as a storage room for half a century. From 2008 it was restored in accordance with the listed building standards and is now used for cultural events.
