Josef Prokš

Josef Prokš (born October 3, 1959 in Ivančice ) is a Czech major general . His appointment was on May 8, 2003.

Prokš is the author of a book entitled "Peace operations (USAWC strategy research project)," published in 2000 by the United States Army War College .

He is married and has two daughters.

Career

Prokš attended the Army College in Vyškov (Vysoká vojenská škola pozemního vojska ve Vyškově), which he graduated in 1982. From 1987 to 1990 he completed postgraduate studies at the Military Academy in Brno .

For more than ten years, Prokš had command of various airborne units . From 1996 to 1999 he worked for IFOR . He was deputy head of the Czech Contact Group on the staff of the British-led Multinational Southwest Division in Banja Luka as well as commander of the 6th mechanized battalion of the Czech IFOR contingent and finally chief of the staff of the 4th Rapid Response Brigade .

From 1999 to 2000 he studied at the United States Army War College in Pennsylvania . He then represented his country at the United States Central Command in Tampa . In 2002 he was transferred to Kuwait , where he was subordinate to the Czech contingent in Operation Enduring Freedom .

From 2002 he worked for the military intelligence service , whose task he saw primarily in the fight against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and against terrorism .

On April 1, 2004, he was appointed advisor to the Minister of Defense and four months later he was appointed Deputy Commander in Chief of the Czech Armed Forces . In 2006 he finally rose to be the first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces.

In December 2009 Prokš announced his resignation from military service.

Currently (2012) he is completing a doctoral degree at the Faculty of Economics and Management (Faculty ekonomiky a managementu) of the University of Defense (Univerzita obrany) in Brno.
