Echinocereus chisoensis is a species of plant in the genus Echinocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet chisoensis refers to the occurrence of the species in the Chisos Mountains in the Big Bend National Park . English common names are "Chisos Hedgehog Cactus" and "Chisos Mountains Hedgehog Cactus".

Echinocereus chisoensis grows solitary or branching. The gray to blue-green cylindrical shoots tapering towards their tips are 5 to 25 centimeters long and 3 to 5 centimeters in diameter. They are not covered by the thorns. Their roots are occasionally thickened. There are ten to 16 ribs , which are arranged a little spiral-shaped and clearly humped. The areoles on them are noticeably woolly. The one to six very slender central spines are brownish. They have a length of up to 1.7 centimeters. The lowest of them is the longest and protrudes, the others are ascending-spreading. The eleven to 16 rather spreading, whitish to grayish radial spines are 1.2 to 2 centimeters long. The top are very short, the bottom the longest.
The funnel-shaped flowers are light, slightly pink-magenta and have a white throat. They appear near the shoot tips and below, are 6 to 9.5 centimeters long and reach 5 to 12 centimeters in diameter. The club-shaped, reddish, woolly and bristly fruits are up to 3.5 centimeters long and tear open.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinocereus chisoensis is found in the United States in western Texas, as well as in the Mexican states of Coahuila , Chihuahua, and Durango .
The first description by William Taylor Marshall was published in 1940. A nomenklatorisches synonym is Echinocereus reichenbachii var. Chisosensis (WTMarshall) LDBenson (1969). The following subspecies are distinguished:

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
