The University of Defense , in Czech Univerzita obrany , is the only military university in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 2004 and emerged from the merger of three older military universities.

Predecessor universities

The previously independent predecessor universities now form the three faculties and institutes of the university.

  • Military Academy in Brno (Vojenská akademie v Brně)
  • University of the Army in Vyškov (Vysoká vojenská škola pozemního vojska ve Vyškově)
  • Military Medical College Johann Evangelista Purkyně in Hradec Králové (Vojenská lékařská akademie Jana Evangelisty Purkyně v Hradci Králové)

  • Faculty of Military Technologies (Faculty vojenských technologií)
  • Faculty of Economics and Management (Faculty ekonomiky a managementu)
  • Faculty of Military Health Care (Faculty vojenského zdravotnictví), in Hradec Králové
  • Institute for Protection against Weapons of Mass Destruction (Ústav ochrany proti zbraním hromadného ničení), in Vyškov
