history

The first written mention of a dairy village and the surrounding pastures located on the Na Kadowie square near Fryšava and consisting of six properties was made in 1587 when Jan and Maximilian von Pernstein valued the Neustadtl lordship . This settlement was located halfway between Fryšava and today's Kadov, between the road and the Fryšávka. A village of Kadowie may have been there before, but it became extinct in the 14th century. Wilhelm Dubský of Třebomyslice, who had bought the estate from the Pernstein brothers, lost the property in 1624 because of his participation in the uprising of the Bohemian estates .

Simon Kratzer von Schönsberg, who leased the Neustadtl estate from the Dietrichstein family in 1638 , had big plans to develop the iron ore deposits in the Saar mountains, which he could no longer realize. He was shot by the Swedes in 1645 while attacking Neustadtl. His son Franz Maximilian continued his father's work and had a blast furnace built between 1646 and 1651 on the site of today's location. In 1660 a second blast furnace was built, which was probably located near Podmedlovský Mlýn. A settlement of smelters developed around the Kadau blast furnace. In 1656 the village of Kadau was listed for the first time in the register of the Neustadtl lordship. Fresh fires in Kuklík , Vříšť and Líšná were part of the blast furnace operation . From 1741 there is evidence of a fresh fire in Kadau, and others were built in Křižánky and Milovy . The shift foreman in Wrzischt (Vříšť) was in charge of the ironworks. In the Kadauer Hütte u. a. cast iron pillars, pipes and roof panels. Furthermore, bullets and grenades for the artillery were cast in Kadau from 1685 to 1699. The products also included works of art such as crucifixes, rings, bracelets, earrings and tableware. The Kadau ironworks became the second largest in Moravia in the 18th century. In 1783 18% of Moravian iron production came from Kadau. In 1848 the smelter employed 80 workers.

The stately Josefhof was built between 1720 and 1727, and Kaduwek was later laid out in its corridors. The Podmedlauer Mühle, consisting of a board saw and a water mill, was built in 1723. The first local seal comes from the year 1749. In 1760 the Kadau mill was created as a water mill on the Fryšávka. Until 1848, Kadov was always subject to the Neustadtl rulership.

After the abolition of patrimonial Kadov formed with the district Krátká from 1850 a municipality in the political district of Neustadtl. In 1860 about 750 people lived in the community. Krátká broke up in 1870 and formed its own community.

In the second half of the 19th century, the Kadauer Eisenwerke began to decline. In 1864 the shift foreman was relocated from Wrzischt to Kadau. Ten years later, the ironworks were shut down.

In 1949 the community was assigned to the Okres Žďár nad Sázavou . In 1976, Kadov lost its independence and was a district of Sněžné until 1990. Today Kadov is a resort and winter sports resort. Between 1969 and 1988 cross-country skiing competitions were held annually, and well-known runners were among the participants. Kadovánek liqueur is produced in the inn.
