Kněževes (German Knieschewes , also Kniesowes ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located twelve kilometers north of Velké Meziříčí and belongs to the Okres Žďár nad Sázavou .
geography
Kněževes is located on the left side above the valley of the Oslava in the Křižanovská vrchovina ( Krischanauer Uplands ) belonging to the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands . The village is surrounded by several ponds. To the east lies the Rousměrovská borovina forest.
Neighboring towns are Ostrov nad Oslavou in the north, Suky and Laštovičky in the northeast, Rousměrov in the east, Bory in the southeast, Krásněves in the south, Vrbův Mlýn and Zahradiště in the southwest, Pavlov in the west and Radostín nad Oslavou in the northwest.
history
The first documentary mention of the village, which previously belonged to the Mostiště lordship, was in 1370, when Bohuň von Mostiště renounced Knyezewess and other villages in favor of Margrave Johann Heinrich . In the course of time it was called Knyese Wes and Knížecí .
After the abolition of patrimonial Knězoves formed from 1850 a district of the Radostín municipality in the Velké Meziříčí district . The political municipality Kněžoves was established in the 1890s and has been called Kněževes since 1921 . At the beginning of 1961 the Okres Velké Meziříčí was dissolved and the municipality was assigned to the Okres Žďár nad Sázavou . In 1972 it was incorporated into Radostín nad Oslavou, and the municipality has existed again since 1990.
