history

Seč arose at the transition from the 12th to the 13th century during the colonization of the Iron Mountains. The first information about the castle Wichstein (Vildštejn) belonging to a Hrabiš from Poběnice comes from the year 1289. Since 1315 the castle Oheb can also be traced.

The first written mention of Syez as the seat of Vladiken Svenek de Syeze comes from the year 1318. In 1350 the church of St. Stephen as well as the rectory and a Catholic school were built. During the Hussite Wars , the Catholic school went out and lessons continued in the manor house from 1419. In 1493, Nicholas the Younger Trčka von Lípa acquired the Vildštejn castle including the surrounding villages, including Seč. Seč was first referred to as a town in 1499. In 1556 the brothers Albrecht and Wenzel bought Robenhaupt von Sucha (Robmhap ze Suché) Seč. Since 1580 Seč had the embarrassing jurisdiction IV class. In 1583 Albrecht Brückner von Bruckstein acquired Seč. Karel Záruba von Hustířan bought the place from his son of the same name in 1593. After the battle of the White Mountain , the Záruba had to leave Bohemia and in 1620 they sold their property to the imperial lieutenant Francois de Couriers on Nassaberg . In the Thirty Years' War Seč became deserted and the berní rula shows 38 farms for the place, eight of which were desolate. In 1660 the place was known for pearl fishing in the Chrudimka. In 1677 Seč had 225 inhabitants. 81 people died in Seč from the plague epidemic that struck the Nassaberg domain in 1680. In 1701 Franz Josef von Schönfeld acquired the rulership of Nassaberg and through marriage in 1737 Johann Adam von Auersperg acquired the property. In 1760 the right of blood justice was extinguished , during its 180 years of practice 31 executions took place in Seč. In 1823 a textile factory was established and a little later a distillery , brewery and oil press followed. On April 30, 1852, a fire destroyed the castle and 14 properties.

Seč was elevated to town on November 29, 1853 and since then has had the coat of arms with the silver lily on the red field. At that time the place consisted of 137 houses and had 1,100 inhabitants. In the years 1858 to 1860 the rectory was rebuilt. In 1876 the new construction of the town hall began. The dam was built between 1924 and 1934, when the Podohbí settlement, as well as a mill, board saw and flax breaker were flooded.

After the Second World War, the city rights were not renewed. In 1960 Proseč, Prosíčka, Přemilov and Ústupky were incorporated; In 1974 Kraskov was added. In 1971 the castle was converted into a municipal office. In 1973 a middle school for teachers opened in Seč. On October 1st, 1980 Seč had 1,558 inhabitants. Since April 12, 2007 Seč is a town again.
