The Vildštejn Castle (German Wildstein , originally Wichstein ) was a castle in Eastern Bohemia, Czech Republic . Its remains are located one kilometer south of Seč above the Seč dam dam .
history
The castle was built at the end of the 13th century on a rocky promontory on the left above the Chrudimka valley . It can be traced back to 1289 and at that time it was owned by Hrabiš from Poběnice. Oheb Castle was built on the opposite bank in 1315 .
The castle was taken several times, at the end of the 14th century by Jišík von Popovec and during the Hussite Wars by Jan Hertwig von Rušínov, a leader of the orphans . In 1436 Jiřík von Dubá received the castle from Emperor Sigismund as a pledge.
The castle had been desolate since the middle of the 15th century. Larger remains of the castle keep were preserved until 1840 and were then removed. Between 1924 and 1934 the Seč dam was built at the foot of the ruin and the road from Seč to Hlinsko , which ran over the top of the dam, was driven through the mountain in a 30 m long tunnel under the ruin.
