The Přelouč – Prachovice railway with the former branch to Vápenný Podol is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the priv. Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company (StEG) as a state-guaranteed local railway . It runs from Přelouč via Heřmanův Městec to Prachovice . The branch from Tasovice to Vápenný Podol has been closed since 1978.

history

On March 11, 1881, the StEG was given the right to build and operate the following railway lines, which branched off from their northern main line as standard-gauge local railways: ... from a point next to the Přelouč station to Hermanměstec, with branches from Hermanměstec to Kalk-Podol and from Tassowitz to Prachowitz ... awarded. The line was opened on October 18, 1882. However, tourist traffic was only handled between Přelouč and Kalkpodol, the branch line to Prachovice was only used for freight traffic.

After the nationalization of the StEG, the line was transferred to the kk Austrian State Railways kkStB on January 1, 1908 . After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD took their place . Their first timetable from 1919 recorded two pairs of passenger trains between Přelouč and Vápenní Podol every day. The driving time over the 22 kilometers was about two hours. On June 10, 1920, the ČSD also started traveling to Prachovice. The Veselí u Přelouče stop was established in the early summer of 1944.

After the Second World War the traffic shifted more and more towards Prachovice. In the 1970s, a new, modern cement factory was built in Prachovice. In this context, the line was modernized and extended to the present end point in Prachovice. On January 14, 1977, passenger trains ran for the last time on the original connection to Vápenní Podol, and in 1978 the route was canceled.

The 2008 timetable provided for a total of 13 daily pairs of passenger trains on weekdays, which ran at approximately one-hour intervals. Only the two-axle railcars of the ČD series 810 are used .

On December 11, 2011, passenger traffic between Heřmanův Městec and Prachovice was discontinued.
