Mie Hama ( Japanese浜 美 枝; born November 20, 1943 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese actress who became popular mainly through her role as Kissy Suzuki in the movie James Bond 007 - You Only Live Twice .

Career

Mie Hama was discovered by the Japanese film producer Tomoyuki Tanaka and under his pen rose to become one of the most sought-after actresses in Japan. Particularly noteworthy are her roles in the monster films of the Tōhō studios such as King Kong - Frankenstein's son (Kingukongu no gyakushū) in 1967. Her attractive appearance soon brought her to several front pages and she was often called Japanese Brigitte in her home country Bardot called.

In 1966 the United States began to notice Hama and Woody Allen hired her for the role of Teri Yaki in his film What's Up Tiger Lily? (1966). A year later, this engagement should qualify her for the part of a Bond girl in the Bond flick You Only Live Twice . The film made her very well known. At that time, a limited edition of Mie-Hama dolls were brought onto the market, which are now worth more than 1,300 euros. In the June 1967 issue of Playboy , she appeared undressed together with Bond colleague Akiko Wakabayashi and other actresses from You Only Live Twice in a picture entitled “007's Oriental Eyefuls”. At this point she had already worked on 60 films.

In the 1970s, Hamas' film career flattened somewhat. Since then she has been present as a media figure in Japan and has hosted several television shows. She is an active environmentalist.
