Georg von Arnswaldt

Georg Michael Martin Hubert von Arnswaldt (born September 29, 1866 in Hanover , † July 29, 1952 in Ebstorf ) was a German forester and conservationist .

Georg von Arnswaldt was the son of the landowner Hans von Arnswaldt from the originally Thuringian and later Hanoverian noble family von Arnswaldt . From 1876 to 1883 he attended the Vitzthumsche Gymnasium in Dresden and in 1885 the Realgymnasium in Celle . He then studied forest sciences at the Eberswalde Forest Academy and became head of the Radelübbe Forestry Office in 1888 . In 1891 he enrolled to study cameras at the University of Rostock . In 1901 he was appointed head of the Mecklenburg Forestry Office Schlemmin (today part of Bernitt ), which he developed into a model area with exemplary silvicultural activity in the 33 years of his management activity . In 1926 he was appointed head forester . He was captain of the reserve .

In 1905 Arnswaldt was a member of the preparatory committee for the establishment of the Mecklenburg Heimatbund. In 1917, on his initiative, the first nature reserve in Mecklenburg was created in the Drispether Moor . In 1935 he became head of the state agency for nature conservation in Mecklenburg. Georg von Arnswaldt was chairman of the Mecklenburg Forestry Management Association, a member of the management council of the German Forestry Association and the Reich Forestry Council, and chairman of the Reich Forest Association .

Retired in Schwerin since 1934, from 1939 to 1941 he took over the management of the Schlemmin Forestry Office as a substitute due to the war. In 1944 he moved to Lower Saxony.

In the Hohe Burg and Schwarzer See nature reserve, a memorial stone has been commemorating him and his son and successor Hans-Jürgen, who, like the Schlemmin Forestry Office, is on the list of architectural monuments in Bernitt since 1992 .

family

Georg Michael von Arnswaldt married on June 12, 1896 in Klodram Annamarie Mathilde Caroline Bolten (1872–1955). The four children Hans-Jürgen , who later became Rear Admiral Wolff Ehrenreich (1898–1972), Edelgard and Burghard emerged from the marriage.
