geography
The Parchim district was in the west of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Neighboring districts in the north were the district of Nordwestmecklenburg and the district of Güstrow , in the east the district of Müritz , in the south the Brandenburg district of Prignitz and in the west the district of Ludwigslust and the independent city of Schwerin . From 1939 to 1952 there was a district of the same name, with a slightly different area.
The landscape in the district was created in the course of the Vistula Ice Age around 12,000 years ago in the glacial valleys and sands of the Pomeranian Stadium. The Pomeranian main terminal moraine is located here in the north and the Mecklenburg and Sternberg lake districts to the south .
The district borders in the southeast on the Mecklenburg Lake District. Here is the Plauer See, the largest lake in the district. Larger lakes are still in the Sternberger Seenlandschaft, which is located in the northeast of the district. The Sternberger See and Goldberger See should be mentioned here. In the west, the Parchim district borders on Lake Schwerin , which is completely outside the district territory. The Warnow with its tributary Mildenitz and the Elde are to be mentioned as larger rivers . The North Sea-Baltic Sea watershed runs through the district . The circle is a typical sectoral circle .
The Ruhner Mountains in the south are elevations up to 176.8 m above sea level. NHN , the highest points in the district and the second highest in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

history
In 1925, the Parchim office was formed from the old Parchim and Lübz offices in Mecklenburg-Schwerin as one of ten new offices in Mecklenburg. The cities of Goldberg, Lübz, Parchim and Plau, as well as 135 other communities belonged to the 131,903.1 hectare area. Parchim was the official residence for 53,666 residents. In 1933 the Parchim District became Parchim District . After Mecklenburg-Schwerin was united with Mecklenburg-Strelitz to form a state of Mecklenburg in 1934 , the name of the district was changed to Parchim district in 1939 . In 1939, 125 communities with 54,942 inhabitants belonged to the district.
After the Second World War , the district belonged to the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the Soviet occupation zone . The state name was changed to Mecklenburg in 1947 on Soviet orders . Since 1949 it belonged to the German Democratic Republic .
The old Parchim district was divided into the new Parchim and Lübz districts on July 25, 1952 as part of the dissolution of the federal states . Both districts were assigned to the Schwerin district . Today's Parchim district was given its shape in 1994 by merging the Parchim and Lübz districts and parts of the Sternberg and Schwerin-Land districts .
In the course of a district reform in 2011 , the Parchim district became part of the new Ludwigslust-Parchim district on September 4, 2011 .
