The Plau am See office is located in the east of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).

Situation and tasks

The municipalities of Barkhagen , Ganzlin and Plau am See are united in this office to carry out their administrative business. The administrative headquarters are in Plau. It was formed on July 1, 2004 from five municipalities of the dissolved Plau-Land office and the formerly free city of Plau am See. On January 1, 2011, the previously independent municipality of Karow was incorporated into the city of Plau am See. On May 25, 2014 Buchberg , Ganzlin and Wendisch Priborn merged to form the new municipality of Ganzlin .

The official area lies in a hilly terminal moraine landscape east of Parchim . It borders the large Mecklenburg lakes in the east and the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature reserve in the north . The Müritz-Elde waterway runs through the administrative area. In the south the area borders on the state of Brandenburg , in the north on the Goldberg-Mildenitz office , in the west on the Eldenburg Lübz office and in the east on the Mecklenburg Lake District . The largest lake in the official area is the Plauer See . The Buchberg near Gnevsdorf is 118  m above sea level. HN the highest elevation.

In addition to agriculture and the use of wind energy , tourism is playing an increasing role, especially on Lake Plauer.

The Bundesstrasse 191 ( Ludwigslust - Plau am See ) and the B 103 ( Kyritz - Laage ) run through the Plau am See office . The federal highway 24 runs south of the official area , east of it the federal highway 19 .

The Güstrow – Karow – Plau – Meyenburg railway runs through the official area in a north-south direction , on which there is only sporadic passenger traffic.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The office does not have an officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription AMT PLAU AM SEE .
