Grebbin is a district of the municipality Obere Warnow in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). Until the end of 2011 Grebbin was an independent municipality with the districts of Grebbin, Kossebade and Wozinkel.

Grebbin is about nine kilometers north of Parchim in a hilly landscape with a few smaller elevations, the highest of which is almost 85.5  m above sea level. Reached NHN . The source of the Warnow lies in the mainly agricultural area . According to tradition, this was located under a forge, which was reproduced in the course of the International Horticultural Exhibition in Rostock in 2003 .

Larger forest areas as well as larger lakes are completely absent. In the east, Grebbin has a share in the Great Moor nature reserve near Darze .

history

The name Grebbin comes from the Slavic word "Grabu", which means something like " hornbeam town ". Several large stone and barrows bear witness to the early settlement of the area. Grebbin was first mentioned on June 6, 1265. In the 13th century a stone church was built. In 1878 a Dutch windmill was built.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Woeten and Wozinkel were incorporated. On January 1, 1951, Kossebade was added. On January 1, 2012, Grebbin and Herzberg formed the new municipality of Obere Warnow .

traffic

The municipality is located north of the federal highway 321 and the B 191 . The federal motorway 24 (approx. 20 km) can be reached via the Parchim junction.
