Damm is a district of the town of Parchim in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).

Geography and traffic

Dam lies in the flat Elden lowlands about six kilometers northwest of Parchim . The Müritz-Elde waterway flows through the district . North of the Elde, northwest of Malchow, there is a large forest area with the Malchow Forestry Farm. There are no significant surveys in the local area. Only in the extreme northeast do the heights exceed 60  m above sea level. NHN .

Damm lies south of federal highway 321 and north of federal highway 191 . The federal motorway 24 (approx. 17 km) can be reached via the Parchim junction. Schwerin-Parchim Airport is to the east of the district .

history

The place name is probably derived from the Slavic word dąbŭ for oak . So dam means oak place .

Damm was first mentioned in a document in 1249. In 1991 there were 419 inhabitants in the municipality.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Malchow and Möderitz were incorporated.

On May 25, 2014 Damm was incorporated into the district town of Parchim .

  • Eldeniederung : The area extends between Damm and Matzlow-Garwitz and consists of an alder forest with extensive reed areas and gray willow bushes . It is the habitat for a species-rich small bird fauna and has flat moor vegetation in places .
