Kiekindemark is a district of the town of Parchim in the southwest of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The place is located in the southwest of the Parchim urban area on the municipality border to Spornitz on a Saale Ice Age plateau that protrudes from the sands of the Vistula Ice Age and is surrounded by elevations such as the Long Mountain ( 125  m above sea  level ) in the west, the Maiblumenberg (116, 4 m) in the east and the Großer Fuchsberg (108.4 m) in the southeast. The town center is about 100 meters above sea level. With the exception of an agricultural area in the north, Kiekindemark is surrounded by forests in which, among other things, large stocks of Douglas firs grow. To the east is the 116 hectare nature reserve Sonnenberg , which has existed since 1957 .

history

The origin of the place is probably in the 14th century built watchtower in the south of the Parchimer Feldmark. The ramparts of the Parchimer Landwehr also date from this time . The high-lying area was suitable as an observation post, for example to protect the Mark from robber knights . The choice of the place name Kiekindemark (Low German for look in the Mark ) is due to this. Based on a drawing from around 1600, it is assumed that the tower was a half-timbered building with a conical roof and a solid substructure. In 1931 the field stone foundation was temporarily exposed.

A farm built by the city near the tower was given fields that belonged to earlier, lost villages. Since the sovereigns feared damage from grazing cattle in their hunting area, the farm was the cause of disputes between the Neustadt office and the city of Parchim for a long time .

Kiekindemark was incorporated into Parchim in February 1922.

The manor house in Kiekindemark, a single-storey plastered building, was demolished in 1997. A new building was erected in 1999 on its foundation with a vaulted cellar.

Forsthof

The forest yard with the listed individual objects forest house, stable barn, barn and wall is the seat of the city forest administration. and was restored in 1996. To the west and south-east of the location are the remains of the earthworks of the Parchim Landwehr, a former border security ring of the city of Parchim, which were created by human intervention in the 14th century. One of the aims of the local show garden is to plant the trees of the year , for example a walnut tree in 2008 . To the northwest of Kiekindemark there is a landmarked boundary stone.
