Location of the Mecklenburg-Strelitz district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania | |
The district Mecklenburg-Strelitz was a district that existed since 1994 and during the 2011 Administrative Reform in Mecklenburg County Lakeland has risen. It bore the name of the (Grand) Duchy and Free State of Mecklenburg-Strelitz , which existed from 1701 to 1933, and partly coincided with its core area, the Stargard rule .
geography
Neighboring districts were the district of Demmin and the district of Ostvorpommern in the north, the district of Uecker-Randow in the northeast, the Brandenburg district of Uckermark in the east and southeast, the Brandenburg districts of Oberhavel and Ostprignitz-Ruppin in the south and the district of Müritz in the west . The independent city of Neubrandenburg cuts a narrow strip from the district to the north.
The area of the district forms the south-eastern part of the Mecklenburg Lake District . In addition to the Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park , which lies entirely within the district, the district has shares in the Müritz National Park .
history
The Mecklenburg-Strelitz district was formed in 1994 as part of a territorial reform in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania by amalgamating the Neubrandenburg-Land (NB), Neustrelitz (NZ) districts and most of the Strasburg district (SBG). Since then it has carried the name and initially also used the coat of arms of the historical territory of Mecklenburg-Strelitz , which from 1701 to 1815 as a (partial) duchy, then until 1918 as (partial) grand duchy of the Mecklenburg state, 1919 to 1933 politically independent as a free state existed. But he was not a legal successor.
The district of Mecklenburg-Strelitz comprised approx. 71% of the area of the former Free State, including the largest part (approx. 82%) of the former Stargard rule , but not the spatially separated Principality of Ratzeburg near Lübeck and the Fürstenberger Werder, which belonged to the Stargarder Land (since 1950 in Brandenburg).
According to political plans, the Mecklenburg-Strelitz district should merge into a newly founded "Mecklenburg Lake District" with the district town of Neubrandenburg and other parts of Western Pomerania and the Müritz district . After the judgment of the Land Constitutional Court on July 26, 2007, the reform law could not be implemented as it was incompatible with the constitution of the country.
In the course of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania district reform in 2011 , the Mecklenburg-Strelitz district was incorporated into the new Mecklenburg Lake District, which was slightly different from the original plan .

coat of arms
Blazon : “Split and half split; in front in blue a tinned silver wall with a pointed tin tower; in the back: above, a black bull's head looking forward with a torn red mouth, silver teeth, a knocked out red tongue, seven points torn off the neck and silver horns; below in red a silver Maltese cross. "
The coat of arms was designed by Margret Lüdtke from Teschendorf . It was approved on February 27, 1996 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 98 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. |

Justification for the coat of arms: The coat of arms has two symbols - the pinnacle tower and the uncrowned bull's head - in the tradition of the state coat of arms of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Strelitz from 1922. The pinnacle tower symbolizes the castle tower which was built in the first half of the 13th century and is now a listed building standing castle Stargard, the landmark of the former country Stargard. From 1352 to 1603 it was temporarily the residence of the Mecklenburg dukes. The bull's head - in Mecklenburg-Strelitz, however, was once described as a buffalo head - with the characteristic neck skin as a symbol of the small coat of arms of the Mecklenburg dukes and grand dukes creates a reference to the House of Mecklenburg. He thus refers to the centuries-old dynastic connection between the formerly Brandenburg territory and Mecklenburg. As in the state coat of arms created after the November Revolution, the bull's head appears in the district coat of arms without a princely crown. The Maltese cross indicates the Order of St. John, who had established the Mirow Commandery in 1227 and the Nemerow Commandery in 1298, whose extensive possessions were passed into sovereign property after the secularization in 1648. With the tinging of the fields in blue, gold and red, reference is made to the affiliation of the district to the state part of Mecklenburg. |
