On May 17, 1990 the district became the district of Strasburg. With the Land Introduction Act of July 22, 1990 , the Strasburg district became part of the newly established state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
Due to the state treaty between the states of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the change of the common border of May 9, 1992 , the communities of Fahrenholz , Güterberg , Jagow , Lemmersdorf , Lübbenow , Milow , Trebenow , Wilsickow , Wismar and Wolfshagen were separated from the district of Strasburg and fell to the state of Brandenburg . Since December 6, 1993, these communities have belonged to the newly founded Uckermark district .
The city of Strasburg as well as Blumenhagen, Groß Luckow and Klein Luckow became part of the new district of Uecker-Randow on June 12, 1994 . The largest part of the district (21 municipalities) went into the newly created district of Mecklenburg-Strelitz , today part of the district of Mecklenburg Lake District .
