geography
The place is four kilometers northeast of Strasburg . It is surrounded by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in almost all directions . To the northeast of the village is the dementia lake belonging to Strasburg . The geographic access to the federal state of Brandenburg lies in the southeast, but at this point a brook separates it from the rest of the Uckerland community. The Baltic Sea A 20 motorway also runs immediately south of the town and "cuts" Wismar and Hansfelde from the state of Brandenburg. All roads lead to Brandenburg via the Western Pomerania towns of Strasburg and Groß Luckow .
history
Name story
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1316. The place name Wismar is derived from Wismaria Place des Vysěmêr or Visemêr , the Slavic locator of the place.
Since 1950: changing nationality
Wismar belonged to the Brandenburg district of Prenzlau until June 30, 1950 . On July 1, 1950, the community moved to the Mecklenburg district of Pasewalk . On July 25, 1952, the GDR federal states were dissolved by law, 14 districts were created and the old districts were divided into new ones. The Uckermark was thus divided between the two districts of Neubrandenburg and Frankfurt (Oder) . Wismar was henceforth in the Strasburg district of the Neubrandenburg district. From 1990 the community then belonged to the district of Strasburg in the newly founded state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
After a referendum in 1992, the municipalities of Fahrenholz , Güterberg , Jagow , Lemmersdorf , Lübbenow , Milow , Trebenow , Wilsickow , Wismar and Wolfshagen were removed from the district by the state treaty between the states of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the change of the common border from 9 May 1992, with effect from August 1, 1992, were outsourced to the Strasburg district and fell to the State of Brandenburg to the Prenzlau district , while the city of Strasburg, Blumenhagen, Groß Luckow and Klein Luckow remained in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Since December 6, 1993, Wismar has been part of the newly founded Uckermark district in Brandenburg. The Evangelical Church Community Wismar, on the other hand, belongs to the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Northern Church (formerly Pomeranian Evangelical Church ):
On December 31, 2001, Wismar became part of the municipality of Uckerland.
For several years, the residents of Wismar and Hansfelde have been fighting for a return to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and integration into the city of Strasburg. Both the city of Strasburg and the district of Uecker-Randow approved the inclusion of the two locations in 2009. A return to MV is only possible by means of a state treaty between the states of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
