The dementia lake is located in the eastern part of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the border with Brandenburg . The area of the lake is an exclave of the municipal area of the city of Strasburg in the municipality of Uckerland . The western bank forms the border between Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg.
The water is a typical channel lake and lies in a terminal moraine . It was created during the last Ice Age ( Weichsel Ice Age ) from a former meltwater channel that was permanently filled with water after the ice had receded. The dementia lake is around 1.08 kilometers long and 170 meters wide. The lake is designated for fishing and is home to species of fish such as pike , tench , eel , perch , lead , roach and carp .
The name was created through linguistic abrasion. In the Prussian original measuring table from 1835 the body of water is referred to as "Der Mentz-See".
The lake is one of the deepest lakes in Western Pomerania .
