geography

location

The Templin district was located in the historical landscape of the Uckermark . Large forest areas and many of the Uckermark Lakes were located in the district .

Neighboring areas

The circle bordered on the northeast by the county Prenzlau , on the east by the district Angermünde , on the south by the circles Eberswalde and Bernau , in the southwest and west by the county Gransee and in the northwest on the district Neustrelitz .

history

In the Prussian province of Brandenburg , a district of Templin had existed in the Potsdam administrative region since 1817 . After the Second World War , this district belonged to the state of Brandenburg , initially in the Soviet occupation zone and since 1949 in the GDR .

During the first district reform in the GDR, the Templin district was enlarged in 1950 to include communities from the Angermünde and Neustrelitz districts , while the communities were ceded to the Prenzlau district at the same time .

On July 25, 1952, there was a fundamental district reform in the GDR , in which, among other things, the states lost their importance and new districts were founded. A territorial exchange took place with the neighboring district of Prenzlau. The old district area was divided into the Gransee district and the (new) Templin district based in Templin . The district was assigned to the new district of Neubrandenburg .

With the reunification in 1990, the Templin district became a district under German municipal law . On May 17, 1990, the district was also formally renamed the Templin district . From October 3, 1990 it belonged to the then newly founded state of Brandenburg .
