The medieval Tangersdorf probably originated in the High Middle Ages and was first mentioned in writing as "Tangerstorp" in 1307, when it came to the Himmelpfort monastery from the possession of the von Redern family . The name goes back to the German personal name Thankger. After 1342 the village fell into desolation and the field marrow was forested. The exact location of the medieval village is uncertain. According to tradition, it was located on the site of the later forester's house ( location ) south of today's location.

At the beginning of the 18th century, a tar furnace was built between the Haussee (also known as the Großer Tangersdorfer See ) and the Tangersdorfer See (also called the Kleiner Tangersdorfer See ) . In 1730, the responsible electoral Brandenburg office in Badingen laid out a Vorwerk there, which was given up again between 1748 and 1750. Subsequently, the land was distributed to colonists who built a street village . Around 1800 Tangersdorf had 61 inhabitants. Before 1825, the forester's house was built south of the village as part of the Forst Himmelpfort estate . The tar furnace was abandoned in 1840.

In 1901 Tangersdorf was given a stop on the Britz – Fürstenberg railway line . The forester's house was incorporated into the Tangersdorf community in 1929 . Tangersdorf, in turn, was incorporated into the city of Lychen on January 1, 1957 and was still an official district in 1971 . During the Cold War , the Tangersdorf military training area of the group of Soviet armed forces in Germany was located south of the town . In 1995 the stop on the railway line was closed. The former military training area is part of the Kleine Schorfheide nature reserve .
