geography

The community in the Uckermark region lies between the cities of Prenzlau and Templin . The community area extends to the edge of the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve . The hilly area reaches heights of up to 90 m above sea level . To the north of Mittenwalde lies the bay-rich Kuhzer See, surrounded by swampy meadows, as part of the Uckermärkischen lakes .

Mittenwalde is surrounded by the neighboring communities Boitzenburger Land in the north, Gerswalde in the east and south-east and Templin in the west.

history

The municipality of Mittenwalde has basically only existed since 1928. In that year, the Mittenwalde estate was combined with Pappelwerder, the Blankensee and Kienwerder estate districts, the Seeburg estate of the Ruhhof estate, and parcels of the Seeburg district of the Kröchlendorff estate to form the Mittenwalde municipality.

Mittenwalde belonged to the Templin district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg and from 1952 to the Templin district in the GDR district of Neubrandenburg . The community has been in the Brandenburg district of Uckermark since 1993.

Attractions

The list of monuments in Mittenwalde (Uckermark) includes the monuments entered in the list of monuments of the State of Brandenburg. This includes the Mittenwald church from the second half of the 13th century. The manor house of the Blankensee estate was built by the von Arnim family around 1869 and was rebuilt after 1990 by their descendants from the Graf Hahn v. Family . Burgsdorff reacquired.

The B 109 runs through Mittenwalde between Templin and Prenzlau . South of Mittenwalde, the state road L 100 branches off to Groß Schönebeck , which crosses the Schorfheide . The B 109 ran here until this section of the route was graded in 2005. The closest motorway junction is Pfingstberg on the A 11 Berlin - Stettin around 18 kilometers away.

The Mittenwalde stop was on the Templin – Prenzlau railway line, which was closed in 2000 .
