Schenkenberg is an official municipality in the far north of the Uckermark district in Brandenburg . It belongs to the office of Brüssow (Uckermark) with its seat in the city of Brüssow .

geography

The municipal area lies on a ground moraine that spreads between the parallel valleys of the Ucker and Randow . It is characterized by many small lakes and ponds as well as intensive agriculture and a few forest areas. A large number of wind turbines can be found in the area . Schenkenberg lies between the Uckermark cities of Brüssow and Prenzlau .

Community structure

The districts of Ludwigsburg and Schenkenberg as well as the inhabited districts of Baumgarten , Dauerthal, Kleptow and Wittenhof belong to Schenkenberg .

history

In 1256 the place was first mentioned as a Schenkenberc . In 1478 Schenkenberg came into the possession of the von Pfuel family .

Schenkenberg has belonged to the Prenzlau district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg since 1817 and to the Prenzlau district in the GDR district of Neubrandenburg from 1952 . The community has been in the Brandenburg district of Uckermark since 1993.

The municipality of Ludwigsburg, which was created on July 1, 1961 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Baumgarten and Kleptow, was incorporated on December 31, 2001.

The former district of Blindow left the municipal association with effect from November 1, 2001 and was incorporated into Prenzlau.

The community belonged to the Prenzlau-Land office from 1992 until its dissolution in 2001 and changed to the Brüssow office (Uckermark) with effect from November 1, 2001 .

traffic

Schenkenberg is on the L 26 state road between Prenzlau and Brüssow. The Ostseautobahn A 20 ( Uckermark - Lübeck junction ) runs between Schenkenberg and the districts of Kleptow and Ludwigsburg. The Prenzlau-Ost junction is located in the municipality.

Up until the summer of 1972 Wittenhof , Schenkenberg , Ludwigsburg and Kleptow had stops on the Prenzlau – Klockow railway line . Since then, rail operations have ceased.
