history

church

Baumgarten probably goes back to a former Slavic settlement and was first mentioned in a document in 1240 as a Bomgarde . The village owned 70 Hufen at that time and belonged to the diocese of Cammin . A rectangular stone church has existed since 1261.

In 1578, lived together with family farmers twelve, two Kossäten , a shepherd and a shepherd lease in Baumgarten. They had 43 hooves and four parish hooves. Furthermore, the knight's seat of the von Eickstedt existed with eight hooves. The village was last devastated by the Swedes in 1675. The church as well as twelve farms, which were mostly desolate until 1687, were destroyed. At the beginning of the 18th century the village recovered and for the year 1801 one estate, twelve all-farmers, eight residents, a fisherman, a blacksmith and a jug are recorded. 49 hooves were tilled. For the year 1931 an agricultural area of 752 hectares is given, of which 433 hectares belonged to the manor. In the course of the land reform in Baumgarten in 1949, 446 hectares were expropriated and distributed among other things to landless farmers, resettlers and farm workers.

On July 1, 1961, Baumgarten and the then neighboring municipality of Kleptow formed the new municipality of Ludwigsburg. On December 31, 2001, Ludwigsburg was incorporated into Schenkenberg. Since then, Baumgarten has "only" been part of Schenkenberg's municipality.
