Krugrecht

The pitcher law (also dispensing justice, serving justice or dispensing prerogatives ) refers to the prerogatives of the pre-modern law for commercial hosting guests in a restaurant ( "pitcher"), often based on the dispensing of wine and beer. The term did not include the right to accommodation. The right to brew beer was often coupled with the right to brew beer. The tavern name "Krug zum Grünen Kranze" is still widespread today. As a sign that the beer was finished brewing, the holders of the brewing right associated with the Krugrecht stuck green barley bundles in the shape of a wreath or in openings provided on the house facade. Wilhelm Müller's folk song " Im Krug zum Grünen Kranze " (1821) takes up an encounter in such a house in Halle (Saale) .

State law example

Mark Brandenburg : The owner of the Krug right was also called Kruger (hence the surname). In the past, the commissioned founder of a village was usually granted the right to jug in addition to the mill right. Later the right to jug was mostly exercised by the village mayor.

The property connected to the pitcher was mostly of a Cologne character, that is, free of shares and taxes in kind . However, an annual fixed sum had to be paid. The fees for the jug were dependent on the amount of the serving.

Unlike the Scharwerkbaue , the jug could be sold or inherited. However, this only applied to the building, not the associated hooves .
